Season of the Witch

In October, the Season of the Witch brings a coven of five witches to the cemeteries of Felucca. Spot the coven, survive the undead waves, defeat the special foe and the leader, collect Coven Orbs, and find the Coven Keeper at the Nujel'm Safe Haven to claim the edition's rewards.

The season starts on October 1: decorations and the Coven Keeper arrive after 00:00 BRT and the first coven appears at the 10:00 slot. The guard removal in Jhelom, Nujel'm, and the new Britain and Minoc strips already applies since deployment on September 29.

The coven

A single coven holds one Felucca cemetery at a time: Britain, Cove, Jhelom, Moonglow, Nujel'm, Vesper, or Yew, always at a fixed, clear spot in the drawn cemetery. It is discovered by sight - seeing one witch with line of sight is enough. The first valid aggression activates the fight, including pet and summon attacks, and all five witches retaliate at once. Each witch has a role: the guardian shields a sister, the mender heals wounds, and the summoner calls larger waves; the rest fight as common witches.

A red global notice announces each coven without revealing the cemetery and repeats each hour while it lasts; another announces victory or fading. The coven does not appear in Whispers of Britannia.

Undead waves arrive as each witch loses part of her health. Summoned undead fall to a single blow, and a Grave Champion may rise with the waves, always carrying a PvM Loot Pack reward. The ritual circle holds its fighters: striking from outside or fleeing mid-fight drags the adventurer back inside. Coven creatures are immune to paralysis, and each hit they take from a summoned creature has a 30% chance to dispel the summon.

The first fallen witch releases one of three special foes. The Ossuary Warden fights in melee and marks the impact radius of his strike on the ground. The Leashed Shade and the Grave Herald fight as casters, like the leaders: the Leashed Shade marks where its curse will land — move more than three tiles from the mark, break line of sight, or damage it during the warning to prevent application — once applied, the curse completes its four 15-damage pulses. The Grave Herald opens the graves to call Skeletal Knights; damaging him interrupts the ritual.

After the five witches and the special foe, one of four leaders appears: The Candle Widow, The Grave Mother, The Nameless Crone, and The Veiled Matriarch. Extinguish the candles to weaken the Candle Widow and the Matriarch, and leave the ground marks to avoid the leaders' rituals. Leaders attack pets and summons normally, but their special abilities seek an eligible adventurer when the current target is a controlled creature.

Any adventurer may join: there is no loot reservation for the first attacker. The leader's death dissipates the remaining undead with no reward — already created corpses and loot remain — and twelve freed souls rise at the cemetery. After victory, another coven appears at the next fixed Brasilia time: 10:00 and 22:00 during The Missing Names (October 1–7), 02:00, 10:00, 14:00 and 22:00 during The Gathering (October 8–21), and 02:00, 06:00, 10:00, 14:00, 18:00 and 22:00 during The Sabbath (October 22–31).

Currency and redemption window

The Coven Orb is the edition's currency and belongs to it: only current-season Orbs pay for the Coven Keeper's rewards. Each witch grants 2 Orbs, the special foe 3, the leader 5, and each supporting undead 1. Defeating the leader quickly grants extra Orbs. Each special foe and each leader also grants one additional PvM Loot Pack roll, and magical weapons and armor from the leader's loot rise one quality tier.

The Coven Keeper serves at the Nujel'm Safe Haven, beside the Season of Thorns Briarheart Keeper, through October and during Redemption week (November 1–7). Account limits apply per edition.

The Witchfire Cauldron is a Cooking station with its own fire and unlimited uses. The three top rewards share the season's metallic pumpkin hue. Limits control redemption; rewards remain tradeable and lootable.

Leaders may leave The Unwritten Chronicle with a 10% chance: a collectible book in the season's metallic pumpkin hue, whose pages do not yet reveal the story. It is never required to attack, participate, or claim rewards.

October in Britannia

The seven cemetery towns gain dark decorations that grow through October, and Trinsic and Minoc get a touch of Halloween. Restless spirits rarely appear and fade in the streets (1% per town per minute early on, 3% mid-month, 6% late).
